What is BI Business Intelligence and to whom it is intended

Business Intelligence (BI) is technology led data analysis process and representing useful data necessary for leaders, managers and other corporate users to make positive and right business decisions. BI includes a wide spectrum of tools, applications and methodologies which enable organizations collecting data from internal information systems and/or external sources as a result of business processes (transaction databases – e.g. ATM cash flow; remote readers of electrical energy consumption, water, gas), Excel tabeles and other forms of generated reports.

In this article I will try to describe what Cloud actually is in the IT sense, and why it is a “hot” topic at the moment. My attempt to standardize something that is constantly changing and in some instances only resembles something else, reminded me of the great poem by a Russian writer Vladimir Mayakovski called “A Cloud in Trousers”. Like in the poem itself, something is constantly changing, but instead of feelings towards another person, here we have rapid change of technology. There are hundreds of definitions circling the internet, and I would like to add my personal view about this whole thing.

A Hardware Issue Became a Software Problem

During the last decades we are all witnesses of computer systems constantly improving in speed, efficiency, increasing space for storing data and decreasing the size of the components.

Idea for applications development for mobile platforms was born in 2009 when the first iPhone devices started to appear. Upon the release of Android operation system Ver.2.0 and the first Samsung Galaxy mobile phone, development on Android platform started.

As IT professionals, we hear more rhetoric every day about the department’s increased responsibility to drive business growth. Though we know the importance of having an effective, high-performing infrastructure that delivers on end users’ expectations and makes sure that everything runs smoothly, the edict of “driving business growth” can be a stretch. Does today’s average C-level executive truly understand and appreciate the impact that IT has on business? Despite the benefits of an effective IT department, IT budgets are flat-lining or declining.

People highly value and appreciate the freedom of mobility. No wonder that our cars – the central means of individual mobility – have become our most important status symbol and that the costs associated with them are one of the biggest expense items in our personal budgets. However, it does seem that we are at the beginning of a major change that will redefine our vehicular mobility, especially in cities. There are many reasons for this.   For one, the value of individual mobility and the value of using privately owned cars is decreasing.

Well-established studies have shown that the use of social technologies can have dramatic positive effects on measurable performance indicators such as employee satisfaction, retention and productivity, whilst simultaneously breeding an enormous potential for indirect benefits such as corporate innovation.
